While Capcom and SNK were far from abandoning 2D just yet, they gave a few attempts at 3D themselves. Games like Tekken and Virtua Fighter were equally hot in the arcades and on consoles.
By the tail end of the 1990s, 3D fighting games were slowly but surely taking their place above the 2D games of old.
